Wedding Shoes

I decided I needed some snazzy pink shoes for the wedding instead of the black shoes that match the bridesmaids. After no luck at a few stores I found these sparkly pink shoes at Dillard’s. The best part was that not only were they on sale…they were on clearance marked down to $5.99 from $89.00!! SCORE!

So, I bought myself a plain white slip.

And 3 boxes of RIT Fuchsia Dye.

Dug out a plastic tote and put it outside.

Boiled some water. Carefully walked it
out to the backyard and put it in the tote.

Got the slip wet in the sink with hot water.
Squeeze dried it, ran it out to the backyard
dripping water all over the house.

Poured the powered dye into a cup of warm water.
Stired with a plastic spoon.

Mixed it into the bucket of super hot water with plastic gloves.

Held my breath as I put my white slip in the deep fuchsia colored water.

Agitated the slip off and on for 30 minutes
using my gloved hands and a poking stick.

Removed the slip, rinsed it with warm water, then hung over the fence.
Smiled and squealed a little bit.
(Loving it, loving it…!!!)

Washed it in hot water on the delicate cycle in the real washing machine
then hung it up to dry.

Tried it on, took a photo in front of the mirror.

And voila! PINK CRINOLINE!!

It isn’t *perfect* and I wish it was darker pink, but I love it anyway. Polyester and Nylon are among the “do not dye’ fabrics listed on the RIT package but it worked pretty well. Right now the slip is a bit wrinkled and it looks like the dye is darker on crinkled parts. The tulle didn’t dye as dark as the other layers, but that’s fine; you’re only going to see the little bit peeking out from under my dress sporadically. All in all, I’d say this project was a success!

I wanted to dip the pugs in the leftover pink dye water but Andy
wasn’t thrilled about having two pink boy pugs. So I didn’t.
