Adventures of the DIY Bride: Personalized Aisle Runner

After seeing so many beautiful personalized aisle runners of course I had to make one for our wedding! At first I thought I would do as other brides have done and go to Kinko’s for a large printout of our monogram (or name logo, whatever you want to call it since ours isn’t really a true monogram). However, just the monogram/logo wasn’t enough for me. Oh no; I found a verse I really liked and didn’t have a place to use it yet so this was the PERFECT opportunity! The final dimensions of that area are about 3′ x 5′ so I thought that might be difficult, not to mention expensive, to have recreated at Kinko’s. Read more

Change of Plans

If you recall, Andy was helping me awhile back to create a really neat rotating photo card box. I got the idea from another member of The Knot and it was supposed to look something like this, only black:

Well, let’s just say ours did NOT turn out quite so nice. I was trying to “Fun” it up with some crazy fabric and embellishments and that turned out to be not such a good idea. I had been planning on tearing it apart and redoing it. That is, until I walked in to JoAnn Crafts the other day, turned the corner and saw this lovely box that practically sang out my name:

Hellooo Beautiful!

I love stripes and polk-a-dots so my eyes were immediately drawn to it. YES!!! This was it. THIS was going to be our new card box. To add to my delight, when they rang it up it was on sale; marked down from $12.99 to $9.99!!! I love a sale! It completely made my day. I could not stop talking about my fabulous find for the rest of the day. :)

Nevermind that I probably spent more than three times the amount on my unfinished mess of a card box project…but oh well. Whatever. I am in so love with this box. Task complete, check it off the list.

Do Me a Favor…or Ten!

Okay…I’m sort of a favor freak so we are going to have an assortment of fun favors! :-)

All this PLUS a fun candy buffet!
(And who knows what else…I’ve got 5+ months people. I can think of A TON of fun stuff to make!)

All for One, One for All

Are my fellow co-worker wonderful or what? Despite their warnings that they are not crafty, Renee (my personal attendant) and "Schmeed" have been helping me assemble invitations over lunch. We’ve managed to get about
100 done, so that leaves about 100 more!

What a Guy!

I mentioned to Andy about my little DIY (do-it-yourself) card box project for the wedding. It was a little more hands on than I wanted to tackle myself so he jumped right in…although he’s taking far more steps to get it done than I would have. I wanted to screw it together and be done. When things weren’t going well I was ready to throw in the towel and try something easier. Not him. He wasn’t about to let this project get the best of him. He chose to sand down the wood frames and attempt to glue them together! (I’ll have to let you know how it turns out…they’re still drying!)

Trying Out My (soon to be) New Name

I was in the mood to “make something,” which happens every now and then, so I settled on some colorful wall letters for above our dining room entryway. After a trip to Hobby Lobby to buy foam board and scrapbooking paper, I came home and laser cut letters out of foam board and fun paper, then decoupaged the paper to the foam board. I should’ve sprayed them with clear acrylic spray, but I got lazy and decided they were good enough.

This was a fun project. I think I’d like to do more!

:-)

Invitations!!

I’ve been playing around with a few ideas to make our invitations, but I think we’ve decided on the following style. Andy loves the idea of the monogram on the front, which we will continue to use throughout the wedding.

These are going to take awhile to make, but they’re so much fun and I love them!
