How is it Possible
that summer is half over??? I think we need to move where the seasons don’t change so drastically. Maybe then I wouldn’t feel so bad about summer going so quickly.
Andy & I have both been on shut down slash vacation this week. I had these big plans of FINALLY going on a honeymoon but our big project for our last MBA class but the smackdown on that idea real quick. Our week was front loaded with school work and other than that the hours & days flew by doing random little things. Some days doing nothing was just as enjoyable as doing something.
At first I felt like we didn’t DO anything…in reality we DID quite a lot but it wasn’t vacation-type stuff, it was “staycation” (stay home over vacation) type stuff. I decided I should make a list of things we did to remind me this was NOT an unproductive week:
- Cleaned the house (Okay, mostly Andy…you gotta love a man that cleans house!)
- Slept in (Wow is that nice!)
- Made & shipped a cupcake stand, two bridal banners, an engraved plate, a pet memorial, and various vinyl decals
- Made & mailed 100+ graduation invitations (check your mailboxes friends & family!)
- Had lunch with friends a couple different days
- Went shopping for clothes & house stuff
- Andy ordered and received some fun new guitar things for his birthday – an Epiphone Les Paul guitar, giant amp, and a wah pedal – so he’s been practicing like a mad man
- I gave into Andy & played practiced guitar with him for a little bit one evening. I saw a sparkly pink guitar at Guitar World the other day that just might have my name on it. Maybe…my heart isn’t in it like Andy’s is but I admit it’s fun to watch him play. It would make his year if I would learn enough to play along beside him. Given my musical background growing up I don’t think it would take me super long to become a “decent” player. But the piano and possibly drums are on my list too so we’ll see how things go once school is over for good. =)
- Finished up our big MBA project and our team gave a stellar presentation (if I do say so myself) =) Have a look at our snazzy group posing with THE Henry B. Tippie:
- Went out in Iowa City after class to celebrate our success and had THE BEST CHOCOLATE MARTINI in my life at One Twenty Six. I’ve tasted a lot of chocolate martinis and this was THE best…it was like chocolate milk! Dangerous! I had to have two, just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. :-) I wasn’t. If you’re a chocolate martini person I insist you go there and have one. Or two or more. Seriously. I can’t believe I’ve been going back and forth to Iowa City off and on for a year now and I only now discovered this little gem with only 3 weeks left. Makes going to class a lot more enticing!
- Went to Andy’s hometown for a birthday/retirement party & visited with friends and family
- Finished reading James Patterson’s London Bridges and am half way through To Kill a Mockingbird
- Andy is nearly done with the laundry room cabinet project
- In a couple hours we’re jumping in the Yukon to head to Milwaukee for SummerFest to see Kid Rock & Lynrd Skynrd tonight, then back home tomorrow and off to work on Tuesday
We’ve got to learn to get over feeling bad and thinking we’re not “productive.” Plus, I think I confuse feeling productive with feeling stressed; It bears repeating, some days doing nothing is just as enjoyable as doing something. (And that’s okay.)

Wow! You got tons done!
Congrats on being done with school!
