Handy Andy is at it Again!
Andy is obsessed with one of those people who believes everything has a place (or should) and everything should be in its place. (For these reasons I try to keep him out of my workshop as much as possible.) He is constantly adding shelves, storage, organizing and maximizing nearly every nook and cranny possible. (I know, I’m the luckiest girl around…somebody pinch me!)
He has said he would like to have a project to work on every weekend and his latest project is custom built wall to wall cabinets for the living room.
If you recall, our living room used to look like this:

And now…here’s the work in progress (never mind the mess):

Andy must have been excited to start utilizing his new storage area because he dug out all his old game systems so he could put them on the shelves. (I swear he was spoiled, he has like every game system ever made. Except Coleco, which was my first game system. He’s too young to even know what that is.)
The far right area has several drawer spaces for DVDs, CDs, etc. and closest to the fireplace on the right holds all his digital equipment for the TV, PlayStation, and DVR stuff. We will move some of this around and likely store out of season decorations and stuff too.
Although we need to finish the top and the front doors, the boys don’t mind NOT having doors!

Most of the insides of the cabinets are made with sturdy, unfinished 2×4 pieces and MDF since no one will really see it. The top and outside pieces are stained oak panels and crown molding. I thought we were going with simple, flat panel doors but not a chance; Handy Andy wants to do something a little more fancy, so with our busy schedule it may take a few more weeks (or several) to get this completely finished. We’ll keep you posted!

Pssst! Hey NewlyWoodwards:
While telling me about the cabinets Andy said he finally
learned how to cut crown moulding properly, then added,
“Hey, if Kim & Ryan still want to put up crown moulding I can probablydo it now.”
I told him,
“If you say that too loud Kim just might make that your next project.”
To which he replied,
“That’s fine. I can help them.”
So there you go!! Let me know if you want to tag-team some
home reno projects this summer!

That looks amazing. He got that up QUICK, too. Really nice. I love the pictures of the dogs in the shelves. Hilarious.
And, I’m LOL at the last part. Handy Andy rocks my little world!
