Good Food, Good Company, Good Memories

Our friends the Wilsons came over for dinner last night. (Hi Renee! – Renee informed me that she is indeed a faithful lurker that does comment.) :-)   I did not take photos of the Mexican feast I whipped up, but it was delish if I do say so myself.

After dinner we watched Lakeview Terrace a creepy Samuel L. Jackson movie. SLJ plays an aggressive cop that is not shy about letting the interracial couple next door know he is not happy about their arrival. I’ve definitely seen better movies and the ending left for much to be desired.

After that we scanned Andy’s collection of 50,000+ videos and songs on his external hard drive. (No, sadly I am not exaggerating. He really does have that many!) We spent the rest of the right rocking out to these timeless classics:

New Kids on The Block

New Kids on The Block

I am pumped to announce that I will be joining several of my elementary BFFs for the NKOTB concert to be held here in April!!! I wasn’t able to go when I was in sixth grade so there was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity again!

Baby Got Back

Baby Got Back

I made a confession last night so I might as well share it with all of you too…after Andy & I got engaged I saw the infamous first dance video. Before the entire world watched it on Good Morning America. What? You don’t know which one I”m referring to? Where have you been? Here, have a look:

Yeah, so I didn’t want to copy the actual dance, just the concept. I wanted to come up with my own routine to bust out at the wedding during our first dance. I was in Poms (and the 3rd grade talent show) I know how to do that stuff. :-)  (Truth be told, I’m rather shy in real life but I’m secretly a closet performer.) I even took a couple afternoons off work to work on our routine.  As it turns out, Andy wasn’t so sure about this idea. Bless his heart - he said he would do it if it was THAT important to me, but he REALLY didn’t want to. (I then suggested that our wedding party dance be to a choreographed Thriller and that didn’t fly either.) Oh well…I’m not going to share my bits and pieces of the undanced wedding routine, but I will tell you that a dance club favorite by my 6-grade obsession was going to be part of the intro.

Oh yeah! Hey Vanilla…kick it one time Boyeee!! (Come on, you know you’re thinking Dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-ssst in your head right now!) You know what else we discovered? We’re pretty sure that VI ripped off moves and styles from NKOTB. Seriously! Didn’t Jordan Knight have the little stripes on the sides of his head? And watch some old videos. Jordan does that crazy wobbly upper body gyrating move.

This got us talking about other songs that can be played at parties or weddings and get people of all ages out on the dance floor. Such as:

rickspringfield

You know you wish that you had Jesse’s Girl!

We had a great time reminiscing. Dave and I are about the same age and Renee and Andy are about the same age so we were all debating and basing when these songs came out on what grade we were in school. :-)   Andy the farmboy was not exposed to all the vast variety of crazy music we were so he wasn’t quite as excited about some of the songs we dug up. LOL

QUESTION FOR READERS: What are some other timeless songs that are inevitably played at parties and enjoyed (or at least known) by people of all ages?

Oh my goodness…. I’m so excited – your posts are finally showing up in my reader!

The only song I can remember liking at a young age was Seal’s Kissed by a Rose. That and Whitney Houston were my favorites. Sigh… I still kinda like them. =)

We had a great time and it was funny, I told Dave we need to make an ITunes playlist of all the fun wedding songs. Lest we forget Dancing Queen, YMCA, Alvira (it’s a Wisconsin thing), and I knew the Bride When she Used to Rock N’ Roll. LOL

    Let’s kick it……….word to your mother :-)
